Christmas Traditions in Ireland
During Christmas Eve, people decorate their homes with lighted candles. These candles are meant for Joseph and Mary who are looking for some shelter. These Christmas candles are usually of red color. Sprigs of holly are also used to decorate these candles. The lady of house bakes a seed cake for every family member. Three puddings are also baked for three days of Epiphany, i.e. Christmas, New Year and Twelfth Night. Irish people left bread and milk after evening meal of Christmas. They also let their door unlatched. This symbolizes their hospitality. Next day after Christmas celebration is considered as St. Stephen’s day. Football matches are being held on this day.
